i think the worst is over...

We've caught five mice so far. None today; hopefully they're all gone.

Wow, what a fiasco. So, here's what happened...

The people who owned the house before us added a sunroom in the back; however, they did a bad job, b/c many cracks/holes were still left. There was tons of water leaking into the basement (which we did not know about before buying). Andrew's been working on fixing it.

FINALLY, he's finished (we think). he sealed off the entire opening so that nothing can come in... or out. which we think is the problem. he's guessing that the mice have been here all along, but have been going outside for food. now that they cant go out, they're storming the house.

So... picture this... We're all watching tv saturday night. i walk into the kitchen to get some water... AAAHHHHHHHH! mouse, mouse! andrew jumps up off the floor and onto the couch. erica, though, is left on the floor; i say: "andrew, rescue her!" Then, i try to think how to catch this thing. i look around for something... anything... i see a box of diapers; i dump out the diapers and chase the mouse with the box, hoping to cage him. I did not accomplish that, but i DID chase him into the basement.

SO, we put out mouse traps. First night, we caught three. In the picture, you see two of them. You can kinda see to the sides that this is a SMALL closet. so, we put two traps side-by-side, thinking that if the mouse leaves, he's gonna get stuck on one or the other. Well, the mouse got stuck... and then another mouse did too! except, he got stuck on BOTH! it was funny, but awful. His butt was stuck on one trap, and his nose and front paws were stuck on the other trap. his belly, however, wasnt stuck b/c it was over the edges. So, he was wiggling and wiggling. ugghhh...

i hope we caught them all. We'll be gone for awhile cuz of Thanksgiving, so i hope they dont invade the rest of the house!!! aaahhhh!!!

LOL - terribly sorry for your mouse problem. We have one on occasion as well. We have all forms of wildlife that visit from time to time.
I'm not bothered by the mice. Our kitchen is clean and food is not within their reach. They seem to like the catfood though. ACK. I have two cats and they're SHARING food with the mice. Geeeze...geriatric cats. LOL
Anyway, we bought "no kill" traps and we catch them, drive them to someone else's neighborhood, and release them. I know that sounds silly but I just can't kill a single thing...ever. LOL

Good luck with your mousey problem.
